When he attempted to cut into the stone, however, the boulder became so hard that it prevented the cutter from working it. The stone mesmerized him so that he took a few steps back to examine it from a distance, and he then beheld a dragon that was hidden inside. The stonecutter approached, and with his chisel, struck the dragon in the heart, freeing the maiden within from thousands of years of captivity.
