Is the match inside, outside, or on top of the box?

In the topmost illustration, one can see the matchbox from below. One of the matches can be found outside the box, while the other is held inside the box to anchor it to the frame from above.

In the bottom illustration, one can see the matchbox from above, and the match is clearly inside the box.

In the center illustration, both situations are possible.
