Napoleon is depicted here as a scholar in a closet surrounded by memorabilia and historical accounts of the period in which he reigned. One of the thick volumes depicts a sculpture of the revolution - the taking of the Bastille. A red shawl drapes over one of the volumes and suspended over the globe. Before the Emperor sits a tub filled with old world maps. His head is a composite of warring soldiers, wielding flags and weaponry on the battlefield. Napoleon's image comprises four elements: a sculpture, a book, a towel, and maps.
