In this illustration, we see a desolate, waterless desert. However, above it, the heavens open wide, symbolic of man's quest for intervention in such sterile conditions. In the second illustration, which is revealed to the observer, we see water. Defying all laws of physical reality, water flows from one illustration into the other to quench the parches earth.
